August 30, 2014 – Book Discussion on The Harness Maker’s Dream.  Nick Kotz talked about his book, The Harness Maker’s Dream: Nathan Kallison and the Rise of South Texas. He spoke in the History and Biography Pavilion of the 14th annual National Book Festival, which was held August 30,2014, by the Library of Congress at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

MAY 14, 2014  – A Nation of Immigrants:  Jewish Immigrants in America.  Nick Kotz moderates a panel with Sanford Ungar and Steve Roberts:  Panelists discuss the lessons they learned from studying the lives of their Jewish ancestors who immigrated to the U.S. at the turn of the 20th century. They described their research and spoke about how contemporary immigrant experiences differ from those of their family members. This event was hosted by the National Archives and Records Administration.

Judgment Days:
“Judgment Days: Lyndon Baines Johnson, Martin Luther King, Jr., and the Laws That Changed America.”  Nick Kotz recounts the relationship between former President Lyndon Baines Johnson and civl rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr.  Mr. Kotz speaking at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.

Civil Rights Movement Reporting.  Journalists Nick Kotz and Karl Fleming reported on the civil rights movement during the 1960s. The men discussed their experiences in the segregated South in the 1960s and 1970s. Fleming told of being chased out of a Southern town by an angry mob, while Kotz discussed the relationship between President Johnson and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as it developed throughout the 1960s. Both writers talked about how their Southern upbringing allowed them to blend in with the dogmatists of the South but did little to alleviate the dangers of the situations they covered.
